UPDATE: A rescue has agreed to take Zuzu and she will be leaving Downey on Friday, which is the first day that she is legally allowed to be adopted.
An over-joyed Zuzu was so excited to see her owners since being taken in at an animal shelter.
Heartbreakingly for Zuzu, the owners weren’t there to reclaim the dog, but instead adopt a new one.
According to Desi Lara, a volunteer at Downey Animal Care and Control, Zuzu escaped her family’s yard and ended up at the shelter after an unhappy neighbour called animal control.
When the family arrived at the shelter, they weren’t there to rescue Zuzu, but instead a different dog.
“Their reason was because she was crying and sad since her father passed away. She wasn’t a happy dog anymore,” Lara wrote.
“Their solutions for her unhappiness was just leaving her here! And go get another dog. Glad she’s here now. That’s not love for her.”
Lara said the shelter is determined to find Zuzu a new and loving home.
“She was re-named Zuzu! After the daughter in the movie It’s a Wonderful Life. Why, because we are going to post, tag and share her and give her a New life. A wonderful life!”
Poor Zuzu, some humans don’t deserve dogs.
