An eight-month-old baby girl has been saved from a deadly fire outbreak by a dog named Polo in Baltimore.
The baby’s mother, Erika Poremski had stepped outside for a moment, returning to her house in flames and unable to reach her daughter, Viviana still trapped inside.
“I tried really hard, everyone in the neighbourhood tried. They were kicking the doors in and kicking the windows out. I couldn’t (get her out). Nobody could,” Poremski said.
Firefighters were able to reach the girl and when they did, they discovered something amazing.
The family dog, Polo was lying on top of Viviana protecting her from flames with his body. Firefighters were able to revive the girl, but tragically they were unable to save heroic Polo.
“[Polo] stayed with her the whole time in the bedroom and wouldn’t even come downstairs to get out the door,” Poremski said. “He was my first baby and now I lost him”.
Firefighters credit the dog with saving the little girl’s life. She remains in hospital being treated for severe burns to one side of her body (Polo protected the other side).
What an incredible dog!
