Brazil Open Tournament Uses Adorable Rescue Dogs As Ball Bearers

Four sweet ex-street dogs can be seen making their debut as ball bearers at the Brazil Open Tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil in this adorable video. The dogs were rescued from the slums of Sao Paulo and trained as ‘ball dogs’ to promote the adoption of abandoned animals.

Andrea Beckert from the Association of Animal Wellbeing said, “we want to show that abandoned dogs can be adopted and trained. After all, it’s not easy to get a dog to only pick up the lost balls, and then to give them up!”

The pups, Frida, Costela, Mel and Isabelle were adorably dressed in bright orange ribbons and instructed to snatch any balls which hit the net or bounced off the court and return them to the players. While picking up the stray balls was easy enough, it was the giving back aspect that the dogs struggled with most.
