An adorable and peckish baby sea lion has surprised executive chief Bernard Guillas, staff and guests at the upscale The Marine Room in San Diego, California.
The sea lion pup enchanted spectators including executive chief Bernard Guillas who shared pictures of the rare spectacle on Facebook.
Sadly, the hungry sea lion pup was noticeably malnourished.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association has reported an increase in sea lion pup malnourishment due to increasingly warmer water, that is not containing nearly as much sea lion prey, moving through California’s coast.
Mother sea lions are being forced to travel further and for longer periods of time to find food, leaving their pups alone and without their mother’s milk, which they depend on.
SeaWorld’s San Diego rescue team will care for the pup until it has regained its strength and health, it will then be released back into the wild.
